Several hundred high school students undergo voluntary military training

A total of 634 high school students have completed a four-week voluntary military training program at eight garrisons across the Czech Republic, according to the Czech Ministry of Defense. The program was organized in response to problems getting new army recruits. Participants, both male and female, learned to fire small arms, throw grenades, and were given instruction in tactics, engineering, topography, and first aid.

The program is organized by the Military Academy in Vyškov which provides initial training for new recruits. Defence Minister Jana Černochová (SPOLU) has stated that the Czech Army needs to increase the number of active-duty soldiers from the current 24,000 to 38,000.
