Seven new cases of monkeypox recorded in past week
Seven new cases of monkeypox have been registered in Prague in the past week, bringing the total up to 37, according to information published on the website of Prague's hygiene station on Wednesday. So far, two patients have required hospitalisation. One patient developed acute kidney failure as a complication. At least another eight cases were previously confirmed by hygiene stations in other regions in Czechia, but the State Health Institute no longer publishes aggregate data.
Monkey pox has been common in West and Central African countries for some time but began to spread in Europe, the USA and other countries around the middle of May. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, over 800 cases have been reported in 21 European countries so far.
