Senate chair says no immediate plans to activate Article 66 on transfer of president’s powers

The Speaker of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil said on Friday that the upper chamber would not for the time being move to activate Article 66 of the Czech Constitution, which would open the way for a transfer of the president’s powers to senior state officials. In response to the medical council’s findings, Senator Vystrčil said that if the president was capable of performing his basic duties there was no reason for such a move.
