Seismologists report “moderately strong” earthquake in southern Bohemia

Seismographs recorded a 3.9 magnitude earthquake centred around Písek, southern Bohemia on Thursday. According to the Geophysical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, it was a moderately strong earthquake which is not common in this part of the world. People reported tremors within a radius of several kilometers, but there were no reports of material damage. Experts last registered a similar phenomenon in southern Bohemia more than a decade ago. In 2012 the Geophysical Institute registered tremors of 2.4 on the Richter scale in Český Krumlov.
