Second round of voting for Senate places ends Saturday afternoon

Round two of voting to one-third of the seats in the Czech Senate is taking place for a second day. The ballots will close in 24 constituencies at 2 pm on Saturday.

The polls will decide whether the opposition ANO or the parties in the government coalition boost their position in the upper chamber.

One of the most closely watched races is in Jihlava, where Senate speaker Miloš Vystrčil of the Civic Democrats is up against ANO’s Jana Nagyová, who is currently on trial for corruption with her party boss Andrej Babiš.

Three Senate seats were filled last weekend when candidates received over 50 percent in the first round.
