Second round of voting for Senate places concludes

The second round of voting to one-third of the seats in the Czech Senate ended on Saturday at 2 pm. Ballots saw two candidates face off in 24 constituencies around the country.

The polls will decide whether the opposition ANO or the parties in the government coalition boost their position in the upper chamber. Results are expected later on Saturday.

One of the most closely watched races has been in Jihlava, where Senate speaker Miloš Vystrčil of the Civic Democrats faced ANO’s Jana Nagyová, who is currently on trial for corruption with her party boss Andrej Babiš.

Three Senate seats were filled last weekend when candidates received over 50 percent in the first round.
