Russian ambassador criticizes Czech stance on Russian House

Russia’s ambassador in Prague, Alexander Zmeyevsky, has criticized Czechia‘s approach to the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, known as the Russian House. In an interview with Izvestia, he described the atmosphere around the center as "unhealthy."

The Russian House is run by the state agency Rossotrudnichestvo, which is under EU sanctions. The Czech government does not recognize the building’s diplomatic status, and Czech media have repeatedly called for its closure. Zmeyevsky also claimed it has been targeted by protests and vandalism, especially in connection with the war in Ukraine.

Critics argue the center spreads Russian propaganda. In April, dozens protested outside, urging it be shut down. Some EU countries have already closed similar institutions.
