Road transport body should take on greater control powers, says minister

The Czech minister of transport, Martin Kupka, says he wants to transform the national Service Center for Road Transport into a roads inspectorate modelled after equivalent bodies Poland and other countries. Speaking on Czech Television on Sunday, Mr. Kupka said the organisation should have stronger powers in the control of trucks, in particular with regard to overloading and compliance with regular breaks.

The minister said he wanted to present legislation on the matter next spring, with a view to it being in place from the following year. He said the change would not incur extra costs for the state as it would not involve the recruitment of new civil servants.
