Report: minorities in Czechia face disinformation and tensions
A report on the situation of national minorities in Czechia in 2023–2024 says minority communities have had to contend with disinformation and hate speech over the past two years. Several minority organisations struggled financially, their membership declined, and fewer people spoke minority languages. In some communities, relations were tense and distrustful, especially among Russian and Belarusian minorities, partly due to political differences and fears for relatives in the home country. The report will be discussed by the government on Wednesday.
The Czech government Council for National Minorities includes representatives of 15 minorities. In the latest census, around 450,800 people identified as members of a minority.
