Record daily increase in Covid-19 cases, 52 percent of those tested positive

The Czech Republic registered 16,939 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, the highest number since the start of the epidemic in March. The number of positive cases reached 52 percent of those tested, also a record number. The country remains on the highest, fifth level on the emergency counter-epidemic system PES.

There are presently over 5,900 people hospitalized with Covid, and over 800 of them are in a serious condition. The number of Covid-related hospitalizations has increased by 1,200 since December 26. 11,580 people have died of Covid-related complications since March.

The Czech Republic currently has four times more cases of Covid-19  per head than neighbouring Germany.
