Reading of the names of people murdered by the Nazis across Czechia

A public reading of the names of people murdered by the Nazis will commemorate the victims of the Holocaust in Czechia on Thursday. It will take place in 38 cities. The event is being held for the 20th time, according to a press release from the organizing institute, the Terezín Initiative.

In the Czech lands during the Second World War, the Nazis established an assembly camp for Jews in Terezín in 1941. Around 155,000 people, mostly Jews from the Czech lands and other European countries, passed through there and 118,000 of them perished. Some died directly in Terezín due to the appalling living conditions, while others were sent by the Nazis to extermination camps, such as the camp complex near Auschwitz in Poland, where around 1.1 million were killed.
