Prosecutor not proposing jail for Babiš over alleged large-scale fraud
Prosecutor Jaroslav Šaroch has proposed a suspended sentence and fine of CZK 10 million for Andrej Babiš over alleged corruption, Seznam Zprávy reported on Wednesday. The prosecutor is not seeking prison time for the former Czech prime minister despite the fact that he could get 10 years on suspicion of subsidy fraud of CZK 50 million in connection with Stork’s Nest, a conference centre near Prague.
A former consultant of Mr. Babiš’s should also get a suspended sentence, as well as a CZK 500,000 fine, in the view of Mr. Šaroch.
For his part Mr. Babiš says the corruption allegation is part of a campaign to drive him out of politics.
