President’s chancellor accused of damaging EU's financial interests

The police have filed charges against the President's Chancellor Vratislav Mynář of damaging the financial interests of the European Union.

The charges are linked to funding that Chancellor Mynář received for his guesthouse, located in the Moravian town of Osvětimany.

Mr. Mynář has already had to pay back 975,000 crowns from the 13 million crowns that he received in subsidies for the project.

The Office of the President confirmed the news on its web on Thursday, stating that the chancellor would, nevertheless, remain in office, since President Zeman respected the “presumption of innocence” principle.
