Presidential Office: Czechia supports Israel but urges humanitarian aid in Gaza
Czechia remains a long-standing ally of Israel and supports its right to self-defense, while emphasizing the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis facing civilians in Gaza, the Presidential Office said on Wednesday after a meeting between President Petr Pavel and Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Spolu) at Prague Castle.
Lipavský stressed that peace between Israel and Palestine must be based on mutual agreement, aiming for a two-state solution. Both leaders agreed civilians must not be used as hostages and that Czech humanitarian aid to Gaza should continue with close coordination.
They highlighted the EU’s role and ongoing dialogue with Israel to boost humanitarian aid. Ending the violence and securing the release of all hostages remain top priorities.
Last week, Czechia did not join over 30 countries calling for an immediate end to the Gaza war, with President Pavel saying he had not consulted the government and holds a different view.
