President Zeman says he will block attempts to bring down government
President Milos Zeman has indicated that he will prevent the opposition from bringing down the government, either through a no-confidence vote or via the dissolution of the lower house and early elections.
In a debate on TV Prima Mr. Zeman said that if the opposition parties initiated a no-confidence vote in the minority government and won the motion he would allow the Babis government to continue to run the country in demise until October’s general elections. If the opposition used an alternative course by rallying enough support to dissolve the lower house he would not sanction the decision.
The opposition parties have been weighing both alternatives in recent days and should make their plans known on Tuesday.
