President signs bill returning original tax rate on diesel

President Petr Pavel has signed into law a bill that will see the tax rate on diesel in Czechia return to the level it was at before June last year. The amendment – set to take effect on Tuesday – approves an increase of CZK 1.50 per litre, and analysts say the price at filling stations should rise by CZK 1.80.

Originally, the current reduced rate was to be in force until the end of 2023. However, the government wanted to increase the tax rate now due to lower prices and in a bid to raise budget revenues.
