President Pavel says resubmitting budget would be a goodwill gesture

President Petr Pavel said he would view it as a gesture of goodwill if Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s government submitted the state budget again for discussion in the new lower house, as requested by ANO party leader and likely future prime minister Andrej Babiš. He plans to convey this view to Fiala in person.

Fiala previously rejected the idea, arguing that the task should fall to the next cabinet, expected to be formed by Babiš’s ANO movement together with SPD and Motorists.

Pavel considers Babiš’s call legitimate, noting that since the outgoing parliament can no longer debate the proposal, it would be appropriate for the new one to do so.
