President appoints Eva Decroix as new Justice Minister

President Petr Pavel has appointed Eva Decroix, deputy chair of the Civic Democratic Party, as the new Minister of Justice. She replaces Pavel Blažek, who resigned after it emerged that the Ministry of Justice had accepted a bitcoin donation worth one billion crowns from a man convicted of drug trafficking, embezzlement and illegal possession of weapons.

Decroix, 43, will now leave her posts in parliamentary committees but will remain deputy leader of the Civic Democratic Party parliamentary group. She plans to launch an independent audit to clarify the case and share the results by the end of August, ahead of October’s elections. She also aims to introduce further reforms and push through legislative changes, including updates to the Criminal Code, previously prepared by Blažek.
