Prague’s Výtoň railway bridge to be rebuilt, not replaced

The state Railway Administration will abandon plans to replace the bridge at Prague’s Výtoň and instead hold an international competition for its reconstruction. Transport Minister Martin Kupka (Spolu) and Railway Administration Director Jiří Svoboda announced the decision on Tuesday. Svoboda said the bridge would be dismantled and rebuilt on the riverbank, while a temporary single-track structure would be placed on its piers during the works. The replacement plan had faced criticism from local governments, civic groups, conservationists, and UNESCO.
