Prague woman loses 13 million crowns, believed scammers that her account was hacked
Scammers have robbed a 65-year-old woman from Prague of 13 million crowns, Prague police spokesman Jan Rybanský reported on Friday. The as-yet unknown perpetrators posed as a police officer and a bank employee. They convinced the woman that her bank account was hacked, from which she transferred money to an account they told her was safe, according to their instructions.
Given the amount of damage caused, they face up to ten years in prison for the fraud. Similar cases have been happening across the country, and the police have long urged people to be cautious and verify information directly with their bank.
