Prague planning to do away with shared electric scooters

Prague is planning to do away with electric scooters in the new shared transport system due to come into effect later this year. Prague City Hall will not provide parking spaces for shared scooters and companies will therefore not be able to offer them in the metropolis, Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib announced on Monday. Residents of the city centre have long complained about the inconsiderate use of shared electric scooters, especially by tourists and Prague 1 has long fought to impose a total ban on them. The city council is preparing a new system of regulating shared transport vehicles, which will be based on contracts between the Prague Transport Company and operators of bicycles and e-bikes, which can only be deposited in designated public spaces. The city council should approve the new system by the end of May, after which the Prague Transport Company will be able to enter into contracts with individual operators.
