Prague to modernize flood barriers in the Old Town

Prague City Hall today selected the winner of the tender for the modernization and extension of flood barriers in the Old Town and Josefov areas. The city councillors chose the Environmental Building company to carry out the CZK 47.7 million project.

The goal is to raise flood protection by 30 cm above the 2002 flood levels. Existing mobile barriers will be replaced with new stainless steel structures, and the barriers will be extended to areas that previously relied on sandbags.

Since the 2002 flood, which caused CZK 27 billion in damage, Prague has invested four billion crowns into flood protection, building 20 kilometres of barriers and gates, and adding pumping stations and flood gates.
