Prague leads in exercise, Karlovy Vary and Ústí lag behind, survey shows
A new survey shows significant regional disparities in how often Czechs exercise. Half of Prague residents work out at least twice a week, but in regions such as Karlovy Vary and Ústí nad Labem, around half the population does not engage in regular physical activity.
The study by NMS for MultiSport – an employer-sponsored fitness and leisure card programme – found that four in ten Czech adults are not physically active. Common reasons include lack of time, motivation, and rising costs. One in ten people say their locality lacks sufficient facilities, such as pools and gyms.
Activity is highest in Prague and regions including Pardubice, Hradec Králové, South Moravia, and Zlín. The least active regions include Karlovy Vary, Ústí, Plzeň, and Vysočina.
