Prague hosts inaugural meeting of European Political Community
Prague is hosting one of the major events of its EU Council Presidency. On Thursday, the newly-established European Political Community (EPC) is discussing security, energy, climate issues and the economic situation at its inaugural summit in Prague. On Friday, the Czech capital will host an informal meeting of the European Council.
Along with the 27 EU countries, 17 non-member states, including Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Switzerland, Norway, Kosovo, and the UK have also been invited to the EPC summit, which is also attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The new platform was set up at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and is intended to help political coordination of all European countries and support political dialogue and cooperation.
The Prague Castle complex, which is hosting the two summits, has been closed to the public for two days. Hundreds of police officers, along with the military, have been deployed to protect the guests’ safety. Over 1,200 journalists from all over the world have registered to cover the events in Prague.
