Prague hit by severe storm

A severe storm with torrential rain and hailstones flooded cellars, felled trees and disrupted traffic in Prague on Wednesday evening. Firefighters were called to around 80 emergencies around the capital. The premises of the State Opera House were badly flooded as was Prague’s main train station. Czech Railways and the Prague City Transport company both reported disruptions in traffic due to fallen trees and flooded roads. The storm also affected TV broadcasts when shortly after 6pm lightning struck the headquarters of public broadcaster Czech Television resulting in a brief outage of satellite transmission.
