Prague expands trolleybus network with new electrification projects

Prague has launched the electrification of two additional bus lines, with work expected to take about a year. The effort follows ongoing upgrades and uses hybrid trolleybuses that operate on both overhead wires and batteries, reducing the need for continuous wiring.

The city and Prague Transport Company (DPP) have already introduced two electric routes, with more in development. Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib said the project helps reverse the past shift from trolleybuses to diesel buses.

Trolleybuses first ran in Prague in 1936 but were phased out by 1972. The network was revived in 2023.
