Prague concert of Russian opera star Netrebko called off

Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko will not perform at Prague’s Municipal House in October, representatives of the venue’s management and the agency Nachtigall Artists Management, which organised the concert, told journalists on Thursday.

Prague city government had expressed opposition to a performance by the star soprano, who is on Ukraine’s sanctions list and has been linked with Vladimir Putin.

Alena Kunertová of Nachtigall Artists Management said the concert had been cancelled by mutual agreement and Netrebko would not seek compensation from the Municipal House. Jiří Pospíšil, deputy mayor for culture, welcomed the deal.
