Prague authorities demanding Russian Embassy vacate land attached to premises after 1968

Amid growing tension in Czech-Russian relations, the Prague authorities are demanding that the Russian Embassy vacate an area of 5,000 square meters, which used to be part of Stromovka Park and is currently occupied by the diplomatic mission.

The mentioned stretch of land was attached to the embassy premises after the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia when a Soviet military camp was deployed there.

The city authorities say they want to replant greenery and return it to its former state.
