Poll: Pavel would defeat Babiš in presidential election first round

Ex-Czech Army and NATO man Petr Pavel would have won the first round of Czech presidential elections in October with 27.9 percent of the vote, suggests a poll by the Ipsos agency released on Tuesday. Mr. Pavel would have come ahead of ex-prime minister Andrej Babiš on 23.3 percent. Mr. Babiš has not declared and his ANO party are due to reveal their plans for January’s election next week.

The Ipsos poll indicates that economist Danuše Nerudová would come third in the first round, with 16.9 percent.

Polls previously suggested that Mr. Babiš would finish ahead of Mr. Pavel in the first round but lose to him in the second round run-off.
