Police respond to false gunman report in Prague

Police in central Prague on Thursday responded to a hoax call warning of an armed man, who was reportedly heading from Prague’s Letná to the city centre.

Dozens of officers were deployed in the streets, and students at the nearby law and arts faculties were notified within precautionary measures. Around half an hour later, the authorities called off the alert and are now searching for the hoax caller, who is likely to be charged with scaremongering.

The incident comes just two days before the anniversary of last year’s tragic shooting at the Faculty of Arts, which left 14 dead and 25 injured.
