Police drill in Varnsdorf ends in embarrassment after officers raid wrong school
A police training exercise in Varnsdorf, North Bohemia, ended in embarrassment on Thursday when officers stormed the wrong building during an active-shooter drill.
Special unit officers were meant to train at a former elementary school but instead burst into the neighboring Bishop’s Grammar School, frightening students and staff who had no idea what was going on.
Mayor Jan Šimek told Novinky.cz that the officers were let in by a staff member and rushed through the halls, believing the shocked teachers and pupils were acting as part of the exercise. After being alerted by their commanders, the officers relocated to the correct site and continued the drill. Police later issued an apology to everyone involved.
