Police apprehend over 100 environmental activists at Vršany brown coal mine
Police apprehended 105 activists who forced their way into the Vršany brown coal mine in North Bohemia on Saturday to protest against continued mining in the region. Four activists still remain on the premises, occupying an excavator.
The owner of the mine, the group Sev.en Energy, had to interrupt mining and said it would claim the damage from the protesters.
Another demonstration took place at the coal-burning Počerady electric power plant, which is the main purchaser of brown coal from the Vršany mine.
