Police accuse defunct International Children’s Cross of fraud

Police have accused representatives of the defunct humanitarian organization International Children's Cross of fraud, including for raising money for a hospital to treat children from war zones, which was never built, Aktuálně.cz reports.

The alleged fraudsters received millions of crowns, including from the Vatican and the Pilsen Diocese, to build a hospital in the Benešov region to treat children from Iraq and Syria. The accused face up to 5 years in prison, the news server writes.

According to a plaintiff, the fraud took place between 2013 and 2018. In November 2019, the organization was abolished by the Municipal Court in Prague, which ordered its liquidation.
