Poisonings of wildlife in Czechia rise, rare eagles and wolves among victims

More wild animals have been poisoned in Czechia this year than in all of last year, according to newly released data from the Czech Ornithological Society. So far, 71 animals have died from poisoning, with others found illegally shot or caught in traps.

By comparison, 56 illegally killed animals were discovered last year, 48 of them poisoned. Among this year’s victims are protected species such as white-tailed eagles, red kites, and the critically endangered imperial eagle. Wolves, otters and martens have also fallen victim to poisoning.
