PM warns Czechs against taking road to Eastern authoritarianism

In his Christmas address to the nation, Prime Minister Petr Fiala warned Czechs against taking the road to Eastern authoritarianism in the 2025 general elections. He said it was essential for the country to stay on the path to even greater freedom, prosperity and personal responsibility. The aim of the fear mongers, he said, is to make people distrust themselves and others, to create an atmosphere in which Czech society would be weakened and easily manipulated. That could lead the nation down a dangerous path - where people give up responsibility for their lives and hand it over to an authoritarian leader, as we are unfortunately seeing today in some European countries," the prime minister warned.
