PM Fiala re-elected chair of Civic Democrats

Prime Minister Petr Fiala has been re-elected chairman of the Civic Democrats at a party congress in Prague. He defended his post for the fourth time with 510 votes out of 534 delegates and will remain party chief for at least two more years.

Prior to Saturday’s vote Mr. Fiala told delegates that his government would in the coming weeks present a five-year project to reorient the country’s energy policy away from Russia. He said dependence on Russian fossil fuels was an issue that had long gone unaddressed.
