Petříček backs postal voting in lower house debate

The minister of foreign affairs, Tomáš Petříček, has expressed support for the introduction of postal voting in the Czech Republic in a debate in the Chamber of Deputies. Mr. Petříček said Czechs abroad had a relationship to their homeland and wished to have the opportunity to play a role in deciding its future.

However, he questioned some aspects of the opposition-tabled bill, including the fact it would not allow Czechs abroad to take part in general elections planned for this October.

Tomio Okamura of Freedom and Direct Democracy told MPs he feared postal voting could result in electoral manipulation.
