Pekarová Adamová meets with US ambassador

Speaker of the House Markéta Pekarová Adamová met with the new US ambassador to Prague, Bijan Sabet on Friday and talked about Ms Pekarová Adamová's planned trip to Washington in May, the Czech News Agency reports. The pair also discussed her upcoming visit to Taiwan in two weeks' time.

Ms Pekarová Adamová told the Czech News Agency that she will head a parliamentary delegation accompanied by a business delegation on her visit to Washington and that she is planning on meeting with her US counterpart, other representatives of Congress, and the Czech expatriate community living in the USA. Mr Sabet has promised to help her prepare for the trip.

Ms Pekarová Adamová also expressed her appreciation of the fact that the United States has an ambassador in the Czech Republic again after a two-year hiatus. The previous ambassador, Stephen King, stepped down at the end of 2020 when the new president, Joe Biden, took office, and the post remained vacant until Sabet took it up in mid-February.
