Pavel: Success of first 100 days is getting direction of presidency started

President Petr Pavel has been speaking about his first 100 days in office, a landmark that falls on Saturday. In an outdoor news conference at Prague Castle on Thursday he said that he regarded as his greatest success as starting in the direction he wishes to follow for the five years of his term.

The head of state told reporters his vision was built on two pillars: reinforcing Czechia’s position in the community of democratic, pro-Western countries; and changing the mood in society so that people believe they can effect change if they wish.

He reiterated an earlier statement that he would prefer to be criticised for being overactive than for a half-hearted start.
