Painting by Toyen auctioned in Prague for CZK 37.44 million

A 1950 painting called Then, Later by the Czech surrealist artist Toyen sold at auction in Prague on Sunday for CZK 37.44 million. It is the highest price paid for a painting from Toyen’s post-war period.

Another artwork by Toyen, Emptiness, Silence from 1940, sold for CZK 18.48 million. The most expensive painting by Toyen is Circus, which was auctioned in 2021 for CZK 79.56 million.
