Over 77,000 people aged 16 to 29 register for Covid vaccination within first hours
At least 77,427 people aged 16 to 29 have registered for an anti-coronavirus vaccination since midnight on Thursday, when the possibility opened to that demographic group, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš announced on Twitter.
There are approximately 1.485 million young people in this age group in the Czech Republic, roughly equivalent to 10 percent of the population.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved the use of the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech for people aged 12 and over. Health Minister Adam Vojtěch has said the government will start vaccinating that group by the second half of the summer.
To date, 5.5 million doses have been administered and nearly 1.6 million people are fully vaccinated.
