Over 50,000 new Covid cases registered on Wednesday

Covid numbers in the Czech Republic are soaring. Laboratories registered 54, 685 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, reaching a new record for the third day in a row. The number of reinfections has also risen by 80 percent week-on-week, with 4,945 cases registered on Wednesday. Altogether the number of reinfections is over 71,000.

The incidence number jumped from 1,689 to 1,957 in the past 24 hours. The number of people hospitalized with Covid rose by 12 percent week-on-week reaching 1,879. 201 patients are in a serious condition.

Health Minister Vlastimil Válek said earlier he expected the Omicron wave to peak at the end of January predicting there could be as many as 80,000 new cases a day this week.
