Over 1,800 motorcyclists have died on Czech roads in 20 years, accident numbers rising

More than 1,800 motorcyclists have died on Czech roads between 2004 and 2024, with accidents steadily increasing, the police informed at a press conference on Tuesday, marking the start of the motorcycle season. The number of fatalities has also risen, with 81 motorcyclists and two passengers dying in traffic accidents last year, compared to just nine deaths in 2023.

Statistics show 3,996 motorcycle-related accidents last year, up by 492 from the previous year. Most were caused by motorcyclists themselves, often due to excessive speed on curves, loss of control, or collisions with guardrails and trees. When car drivers were at fault, the most common cause was failing to yield the right of way to motorcyclists.
