Outgoing PM Babiš says he may run for president

Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has admitted that he is considering the possibility of running in the 2003 presidential elections.

In response to a question on Facebook the outgoing prime minister said his decision would depend on whether he received sufficient support from the public.

Mr. Babiš mentioned earlier this week that President Miloš Zeman would like to see him in the running for the presidential post.

Under Czech law this would require collecting signatures in support for his candidacy from 50,000 citizens, 20 MPs or 10 senators. Mr. Babiš’ ANO party has 72 MPs in the lower house so fulfilling that condition would not present a problem.
