Ombudsman backs blind woman whom salesperson refused to serve

The Ombudsman’s Office has stood up for a blind woman who was turned away by a salesman when she wanted to purchase a washing machine on the argument that she could not read the sales contract.

According to Ombudsman Stanislav Křeček this is a clear case of discrimination on health grounds and the respective store should have been able to provide the service and brief the customer about her rights and obligations verbally.

The store has apologized to the woman and said it is training its sales personnel  to deal with such situations.
