Olympic canoeist Josef Dostál named Czech Sportsperson of the Year

Canoeist Josef Dostál has been named Czech Sportsperson of the Year for the first time in his career. In a poll of over 230 journalists the 31-year-old Olympic champion finished ahead of tennis player Barbora Krejčíková in second place and another sprint canoeist Martin Fuksa in third.

Along with javelin thrower Jan Železný, Dostál is the only Czech athlete who has medals from four summer Olympic Games. The Czech national hockey team, which won the World Championship, has triumphed in the category of teams for the 15th time.

The results of the traditional poll were announced on Thursday evening at the Hilton Hotel in Prague.
