Officials in Prague: EU will use existing courts for Ukraine war crimes cases
The European Union will use existing courts to investigate war crimes carried out in Ukraine, the European commissioner for justice, Didier Reynders, and the Czech minister of justice, Pavel Blazek, said after a meeting of EU justice ministers in Prague on Tuesday. The two officials said the agreement of other powers would be required for the establishment of a special tribunal to look at war crimes in Ukraine, which has been under assault by Russia since February.
Mr. Reynders said national courts and the European Court of Justice in the Hague could be used to handle any war crimes cases.
Czechia currently holds the revolving presidency of the EU.
