Number of work accidents decreases

Work safety in the Czech Republic has been gradually improving. Work safety supervisors have reported a decreasing number of work accidents in the Czech Republic in recent years, which is mainly due to changing attitude of company management. Work safety supervisor Ivan Gruber told Czech Radio that most accidents happen in the mining and construction industry, as well as in agriculture.

"The greatest risk is in professions requiring contact with animals, especially care for breeding animals. After that it's seasonal jobs, mainly during the harvest," Mr Gruber said. The law stipulates fines in the order of millions of Czech crowns for breach of safety regulations. So, while a growing number of firms are becoming aware of problems connected with work accidents, many companies fail to report them as they are afraid of sanctions.
