Number of Slovaks with permanent residency in Czechia increases

The number of Slovaks living permanently in Czechia is gradually increasing, reaching nearly 67,200 at the end of this March, according to the Ministry of Interior data. The number has almost tripled over the past 15 years.

According to the Czech Labour Office, there were about 213,900 Slovak employees working in Czech companies and institutions in March, accounting for more than a quarter of the foreign workforce.

Many Slovaks settle in Czechia after completing their studies. According to the Ministry of Education data, students from Slovakia make up almost two-fifths of foreign university students.

The total number of Slovaks staying in Czechia in March reached around 119,800.
