Number of road deaths in Czechia rose slightly in 2021

total of 470 people died in traffic accidents in the Czech Republic last year, 10 more than in 2020 but still the second-lowest number since 1961, when police began keeping statistics.

Deputy Police Commissioner Martin Vondrášek noted that travel restrictions in place over the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to the reduced fatalities.

Vondráček noted that 99,332 traffic accidents were registered in last year, 4,538 more than in 2020. The greatest number of fatalities came in May, with 55 deaths.
